Women in Construction Spotlight: Liz Edwards

Strategic sourcing, staffing, and logistics management require dedicated and hard-working individuals that will get the job done right. Liz Edwards, Material Handler for Inspired Solutions, is just that. Through her strong work ethic and positive attitude, Liz has helped Inspired Solutions grow and has directly contributed to the company’s successes.

Liz did not start her career in the construction industry, but she is so grateful that she entered into the industry when she did. When she started her first job in construction, she served as a supervisor to an underground lineman crew. She remained at this job for six months, and even though it didn’t work out in the end, she knew she wanted to continue her career in this direction. At the time, Liz knew a few Keeley’ns that worked at ADB who introduced her to Inspired Solutions. She heard about the Material Handler position and she immediately knew it was where she wanted to be.

Since starting her journey with Inspired Solutions, Liz has felt empowered in many ways. In her position, she is able to learn something new every day and when someone is willing to help teach her, she feels empowered to teach others and help take Inspired Solutions to the next level. Liz has also felt empowered through her team. Being surrounded by hard working and dedicated people who want to see her succeed and help her succeed empowers her to be the best version of herself. She has seen her team turn from coworkers to a tight-knit family that makes coming into work even easier than it already is.

Liz worked in the customer service industry for 3.5 years and after working with young girls just starting in the workforce, she knew it was time for a change. She never imagined herself working in construction, but Liz has been able to grow and learn new things she had never imagined. In this industry, she has realized that men work differently than women, but Liz has embraced that and has learned how to work with the men on her team to allow for immense successes and fun days at work. However, it can be hard for women to embrace a male-dominated workforce, so if she could give one piece of advice to women it would be:

“Let men think what they want and then prove them wrong. Work your butt off, believe in yourself, and the rest will fall into place! You can’t be weak minded. This is not always an easy job, so do not be afraid to ask for help, and don’t be afraid to give help. Know that you can do anything you put your mind to…even if it’s a man’s job.”

Throughout her time with Inspired Solutions, Liz has learned many valuable lessons. However, the most valuable thing she has learned is that she isn’t just a number. She means so much to this company and to the people she works for and with. When it comes to the future, Liz hopes to grow with the company and help ease her team members’ workloads. She wants to travel and be able to help other markets improve their warehouses and inventories and is excited to take advantage of the amazing opportunities that Inspired Solutions has to offer.
